Beth's therapeutic approach is an integrative and ecclectic one, combining contemporary western psychology with eastern spiritual practices. Beth draws from Freudian and Jungian theories, humanistic and transpersonal theories, blended with the buddhist psychological concepts of mindfulness and compassion; additionally, Beth has extensive training in sandplay therapy and play therapy. She has a sandplay room in her private office, where she invites clients of all ages to explore and work in the world of symbols as well as words.
"My goal is to create a safe and comfortable space where clients can articulate their inner experience through both words and symbols. Deeper and clearer understanding of oneself unfolds as we engage in the therapeutic process with both a playful curiosity and a nonjudgemental attitude. I listen deeply and empathize with my clients, while simultaneously encouraging them to confront the unhealthy roles, ineffective patterns and behaviors, and difficult emotions that are keeping them stuck in their lives. I believe that psychotherapeutic work profoundly transforms our inner worlds. The practice of becoming conscious can generate a practice of living that includes self-awareness and self-acceptance, relief from constant inner conflict, and a renewed sense of feeling 'grounded' in oneself, despite the challenges we face in the external world. I am passionate about this work and believe that the bedrock of solid and productive psychotherapy is the therapeutic relationship. It is truly a gift to be witness, partner, and guide on this journey, and I am blessed to do this important work with my clients." - Beth Block
